Lenio Kaklea
Untitled (Figures)
Solo performance solo, 40 min. Swiss premiere.
In 2023, Lenio Kaklea was commissioned to create a performance inspired by the iconic song I’m Coming Out, written by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers and performed by Diana Ross. Initially uncertain how to respond to the invitation, she chose instead to delve into the work of queer artists who have profoundly shaped her thinking, including Ulrike Ottinger, Jill Johnston, Jean Genet, and the Greek Neo-Realist painter and scenographer Yannis Tsarouchis. The resulting performance pays tribute to the capacity of queer cultures to teach us new ways of seeing and loving the female body through a catalogue of danced figures.
