Biography
Lenio Kaklea is a dancer, choreographer, director and artist born in Athens and based in Paris. Working across choreography, text and video, her practice draws on feminist thought and postcolonial critique to explore the production of subjectivity and the intimate spaces in which identity is formed.
She trained at the National School of Contemporary Dance in Athens. In 2005, she was awarded the Pratsika Foundation Prize and moved to France, where she studied at the CNDC in Angers and collaborated with artists including Alexandra Bachzetsis, Boris Charmatz, Claudia Triozzi, François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea. In 2011, she joined the SPEAP programme at Sciences Po Paris, directed by Bruno Latour.
Her work has been presented by major international institutions and festivals including the Centre Pompidou, the Festival d’Automne, the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection (Paris), the Serpentine Galleries and Sadler’s Wells (London), Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Brussels), Palazzo Grassi – Pinault Collection (Venice), and ImPulsTanz (Vienna). She previously took part in DFTL20 in Geneva.
