Les Impromptus

Les Impromptus emerged from the choreographic explorations that Cindy Van Acker undertook alone among the works of Léon Spilliaert at the Fondation de l’Hermitage in Lausanne in 2023. Following each period of immersion, she offered visitors bespoke performances, improvised in the moment through an encounter with the artworks, the exhibition spaces and those present.

This experience gave rise to a series of spontaneous, one-off performances, each created in response to works selected that very morning. Conceived as a counterpoint to her stage productions, Les Impromptus provides a space for experimentation in which the choreographer can freely explore the core principles of her choreographic language. Developed in close proximity to the audience, these interventions create a shared space for composition and play, firmly rooted in the here and now.
