Biography
Trained in classical dance in Antwerp, Cindy Van Acker danced with the Royal Ballet of Flanders and the Grand Théâtre de Genève before becoming a leading figure in Geneva’s contemporary dance scene in the 1990s. She has been creating her own work since 1994 and founded Cie Greffe in 2002 for the premiere of Corps 00:00, the work that brought her international recognition.
Her artistic journey has been shaped by long-standing collaborations with choreographer Myriam Gourfink, scenographer Victor Roy, composer Mika Vainio (Pan Sonic), theatre director Romeo Castellucci, and the dancers with whom she has developed enduring relationships of trust. Her choreographic language unfolds within a highly distinctive artistic territory, always driven by the search for forms capable of expressing the inexpressible. Essentially formal and abstract, her work explores the relationships between time, the body, materials, sound and rhythm. Presented on stages across Europe, her oeuvre has earned numerous distinctions, including the Swiss Grand Award for the Performing Arts / Hans Reinhart Ring (2023) and the Leenaards Cultural Award (2023).
