DANCE, PERFORMANCE, VISUAL ARTS AND MOVING IMAGES
10.10–10.11.2024
Aftermovie
Editorial
The third edition of Dance First Think Later continues to explore the field of dance in the broadest sense, approaching it from the perspectives of choreography, performance, video, sculpture and drawing. The selected works offer aesthetic and sensory experiences, while raising questions about anatomy, ritual, politics, identity, science, memory, territory, climate and therapy. The body, its gestures and movements are at the centre of human and societal issues, both individual and collective.
The visual and performing arts have many artistic convergences, but function very differently in terms of production, programming, budget and distribution. A sculpture is material, durable (in most cases), and requires specific transport and storage. A dance is immaterial, ephemeral and, in principle, cannot be collected. ‘The dance museum is the dancer’s body’ (Boris Charmatz).
The programme brings together some twenty artists, duos and collectives representing ten countries of origin, several generations (aged 26 to 88) and different levels of fame. There will be a large installation, seven video projections, 13 performances representing 25 live events, a workshop-colloquium with eight speakers and a film evening. Several videos explore the relationship between the body and architecture. The exhibition also brings together a selection of scores from the performances presented. These visual elements (drawings, diagrams, photos, texts, etc.), rarely shown in theatres and festivals, allow the audience to immerse themselves in the artists’ working processes.
