Esther Ferrer
Perfiles
Indian ink on wall, variable dimensions
Perfiles is a wall drawing executed in Indian ink and realised in multiple versions. Beginning with the outline of a person, an animal or an object, successive contours are traced directly onto the wall, gradually filling the surrounding space. Once the drawing is complete, the silhouettes can be erased one by one until the wall returns to its original blank state.
The origins of the work lie in a memory from Esther Ferrer’s adolescence. During a science lesson, a teacher explained that the brain functions like an electrical battery, emitting waves that spread through space. Captivated by this image, Ferrer imagined these waves travelling endlessly before gradually dissolving into infinity. Years later, while making drawings and maquettes, the memory resurfaced and became the starting point for Perfiles.
