Coming Soon

Presented in collaboration with Emergentia, the platform for emerging choreographic creation, produced by L’Abri, TU – Théâtre de l’Usine and Pavillon ADC Genève. French-speaking Swiss premiere.

The odalisque: reclining languidly on a divan in a sumptuous harem, she is the quintessential sensual figure—idealised, passive, waiting, desirable. But who is she, and what is she waiting for?

Coming Soon revisits Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres’s La Grande Odalisque (1814), using humour to subvert the orientalist gaze that shaped this iconic image. On stage, a many-sided character shifts from one role to another and from one tableau to the next: mischievous, brazen and in complete command of pleasure as an art form. Through grotesque exaggeration, familiar images are distorted and multiplied, making space for new narratives to emerge. Something is always about to happen, yet never quite does. What, or who, is coming soon?
