HEAD Genève
Created in 2006 from the merger of two two-hundred-year-old schools, the École supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the Haute école d’Arts appliqués, HEAD – Geneva draws on a rich cultural and artistic tradition to promote young creative talent at national and international level. Renowned for the quality of its Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in Visual Arts, Film, Space Design, Visual Communication and Fashion Design, Jewellery and Accessories, it has established itself as one of Europe’s leading art and design schools.
As an academic and cultural institution, HEAD – Geneva maintains close links with the local artistic scene and economic fabric. By locating its campus in the heart of the city, it is asserting its desire to establish a centre of excellence for art and design in Geneva. Encouraging international and interdisciplinary exchanges, this new creative environment also benefits the expansion of its art and design research institute.
Hosting a number of renowned guest speakers and lecturers, it applies a pedagogy conceived as a space for freedom as well as personal and social responsibility. Encouraging the singularity of each student, the teaching at HEAD – Geneva favours dialogue between teachers and students, who are the protagonists of their own creative process. Students develop projects in workshops, seminars and seminars, as well as on commission from professional, private or public partners.
Theoretical teaching, combined with a variety of aesthetic practices based on research and experimentation, aims to acquire knowledge and develop a range of intellectual skills. Know-how and knowing-thinking are the pillars of a teaching approach that rejects dogmatism and provides critical tools for understanding the contemporary world.
