Biography
Padmini Chettur began her career as a dancer in the troupe of Chandralekha, a radical modernist choreographer of Bharatanatyam who was adept at the rigorous deconstruction of form. She went on to define her own choreographic language – minimalist, abstract, and formal – reducing movement to an essential anatomical investigation and prioritising tension over emotion. Since 2011, her work has been presented in places such as Steirischer Herbst Graz, Kochi-Muziris Biennial, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Seoul, Jejak-Tabi Jogjakarta, Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin, Archive Berlin, Hangar Bicocca Milan, Museum Folkwang Essen, EMPAC Upstate New York. Her practice has also extended to films and long-term works. Stilling will be presented at the Dystopia Sound Art Biennial in Berlin in September 2024.
